Tung Wah Hospitals Charity Gala 2009

I recently reported on Jackie's recent visit to Hong Kong and fundraising event. It has taken me a few days to get round to investigating just what the charity event was.

The charity gala that Jackie and New Seven Little Fortunes took part in on the 12th December 2009 was the Tung Wah Hospitals Charity Gala.

You can read more about this charity group HERE and a little about the charity gala HERE.. Website is all in English so I won't repeat all the information here. Please go and read about the wonderful work they do providing medical, educational and other charitable services for over 100 years in Hong Kong.

And a small snippet of old news about the group. In 2007 they decided to ban shark fin soup from their menus (at fundraisers). Read more HERE.

And last but not least an English news report about this charity gala.

Although this year there were no music pop king/queens nor were there any Fadan Siu Sangs that attended the , but the program still managed to collect $85,833,333 funds, breaking last year’s record of 85,188,888. In addition to the global economy recovering, this result also depended on many kind-hearted people in HK.

This year’s was led by superstar Jackie Chan, TV King Wayne Lai, Best Supporting Female Susan Tse, along with Andy Hui, Dicky Cheung, Edmond Leung, William So, Michelle Yim, Chin Ka Lok, Yumiko Cheng, etc. etc.

Johnson Lee once again did intimations, intimating several music pop kings like Jacky Cheung, Aaron Kwok, Dave Wong and Andy Lau. Earlier Chan Hung Lit pretended to be Elvis Presley and lead to misunderstandings that Johnson was “picking two stalls” . Johnson said: “No, TVB had already asked me earlier to do this performance.” He smiled and said that he will never do “Karaoke Star”: “this performance is reserved for Nancy Sit and Wong Wai Tak, I will never be a match for them.”

Eric Tsang was one of the MCs for the show along with Liza Wang, Margie Tsang and Cutie Mui, however he would often disappear and let the other 3 ladies do the talking. Netizens discovered that Eric disappeared for more than 2 hours. Liza and the others did not pay much attention. Liza was busy rapping with Ella Koon, while Margie suggested Timmy Hung and Janet Chow to take young couple photos together.
